Candlelight Vigil Sheds Light On Sexual Assault Awareness

April 7, 2006 - First Lady of Texas Anita Perry was the keynote speaker at the annual candlelight vigil held in support of Sexual Assault Awareness Month April 6 at the Spring Creek Campus in Plano. The vigil was co-sponsored by The Turning Point (Rape Crisis Center of Collin County) and Collin County Community College District (Collin).

Mrs. Perry has a healthcare background as a sexual assault nurse working with survivors. Additionally, Vikas Adam, sexual assault awareness supporter, spoke about his own recovery process.

The Turning Point is a private, non-profit organization that addresses the needs of victims of sexual assault and their families. This includes ensuring sensitive treatment by the public of sexual assault victims through education and community outreach, and sponsorship of the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program for Collin County.
