Winners Announced For The 14th Annual Quad C Theatre Awards Ceremony

May 22 (Plano, TX) - The 14th Annual Quad C Theatre Awards Ceremony was held on Monday, May 15 in the John Anthony Theatre on the campus of Collin County Community College (Collin). During the ceremony, Quad C's acclaimed productions collected numerous awards. The big winner was The Rocky Horror (Puppet) Show, which took home 13 awards; the most by any production in Quad C Theatre history.

The students and faculty at Collin, in addition to the more than 300 Quad C Theatre season subscribers, vote upon the Quad C Theatre Awards. Co-hosted by J-M Specht (Allen) and Nima Farkhak (Garland), both former Collin students, the Academy Award-styled ceremony featured video clips from each of the nominees for Outstanding Production. A show-stopping collage of scenes was also presented, hilariously merging Twelfth Night, Handler, The Exonerated, Season's Greetings, The Rocky Horror (Puppet) Show and The Mistress of the Inn.

The award for Outstanding Production went to the cast and crew of The Rocky Horror (Puppet) Show. There was a tie for Outstanding Direction: Dane Hoffman (Plano), Brad Baker (Plano), Mark Mullino (Dallas), Rusty Tennant (Dallas) and James Ortiz (Richardson) received honors for The Rocky Horror (Puppet) Show and Gail Cronauer (Dallas), Jason Ralph (McKinney), Robin Armstrong (Dallas), Patricia Ivey (Dallas) and Floyd Kearns-Simmons (Plano) for Handler. Mr. Baker (Plano) also picked up the award for Outstanding ALT Series Production and Outstanding Direction for an ALT Series production for The Exonerated.

Demonstrating excellence on-stage, Colleen O'Connor (Frisco) won for Leading Actress in Handler. James Ortiz (Richardson) won for Leading Actor in Twelfth Night. Melissa Farmer (Garland) received the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress for The Rocky Horror (Puppet) Show; Michael Tuck (Garland) won for Outstanding Supporting Actor for The Rocky Horror (Puppet) Show; Melissa Farmer (Garland) and Kayla Parker (Richardson) tied for Outstanding Cameo Actress - Ms. Farmer for Handler and Ms. Parker for The Rocky Horror (Puppet) Show. J-M Specht received the award for Outstanding Cameo male for his performance in The Rocky Horror (Puppet) Show. Chris Yaple (Lewisville) picked up honors for his Leading Actor Performance in an ALT Series Production, The Exonerated. Raye Bonham (McKinney) received the honor of Outstanding Actress Performance in the ALT Series Production of The Vagina Monologues. Ryan Maffei (Allen) and Vanessa Bellew (Allen) won for their Supporting roles in an ALT Series Production for The Exonerated. The award for Outstanding Community Actor and Actress went to Charles Ryan Roach (Dallas) and Tiffany Kellerman (Plano) for their performances in Season's Greetings. The Outstanding Community Actor/Actress in an ALT Series Production award went to Danni Wilkins (Plano) for her roles in the ensemble of The Vagina Monologues.

The Rocky Horror (Puppet) Show swept up all the Design Awards: the Design Outstanding Scenic Design was awarded to Craig "Yo" Erickson (Plano); Bobby Harrell (NYC) for Outstanding Lighting Design; Andrew Duckworth (Plano) for Outstanding Sound Design; Robin Armstrong (Dallas), Dan Miga (Plano) and James Ortiz (Richardson) for Outstanding Costume Design; plus Outstanding Running Crew award; Special Contribution for Puppetry, and Outstanding Stage Management by Brittany Noll (Mesquite) and Andrew Farris (Richardson).

The remaining awards were divided among the other Quad C Theatre productions. Mr. Baker and William V. Patterson (Washington, DC) with Ms. Armstrong won the award for Outstanding Graphic Design for The Mistress of the Inn.

Three former Collin students where inducted into the Quad C Theatre Hall-of-Fame. These former students include Stephanie Duckham (Richardson), Ryan Burke (Garland), and Michael Hollomon (Carrollton) into the Quad C Theatre Hall-of-Fame. Each of the Inductees received a plaque, a lifetime pass to the Quad C Theatre, and will have his/her photograph displayed on the wall of the John Anthony Theatre.

Quad C Theatre Director Brad Baker also introduced thirty-nine Theatre Department Scholarship recipients, citing the talented group of students as "the cornerstone of our future." "Whatever we achieve during the next few years," Baker added, "will be a tribute to these students' collective efforts."

The David Hobbs Memorial scholarship was awarded to incoming Freshmen Cory Boulieris (Flower Mound) and Bianca Baidoo (Plano), and to outgoing student Thomas Renner (Lantana).

The coveted award for Outstanding Theatre Student went to James Ortiz (Richardson). Christa Watson (Harleton) won for Most Improved Theatre Student.

Chair of Theatre Brad Baker (Plano) gave the Backstage Award to Sandra Snyder (Plano) for her work in the Theatre Department.

Dan Schmoker (Sherman) was presented with the Adam Hurst Spirit of Quad C Award. This scholarship is dedicated to Adam Hurst, a former theatre student who passed away due to complications with leukemia. His spirit of hope and joy is evident in the spirit of Mr. Schmoker.
