Collin Offers New Marketable Skills Achievement Award in Sports Management
June 16, 2006 -- Athletes and teams are descending on Collin County: the Dallas Stars, Frisco Rough Riders, Texas Tornados, F.C. Dallas soccer and many others.
In response, Collin County Community College District (Collin) will offer a new marketable skills achievement award in sports management that can be completed in 12 credit hours. The award will first be offered in fall 2006.
Students enrolled in sports management classes will learn financial management, marketing and legal issues associated with the sport and exercise industry.
Classes include foundations of sport and physical activity, introduction to sports management, introduction to recreation resources management and principles of marketing.
Students who complete the award will be prepared to work in corporate fitness centers, health clubs, college and professional sports organizations, federations and governments, media and many areas of recreation.
Several colleges in the state of Texas have degrees in sports marketing to which Collin students, after securing associate’s degrees, may eventually transfer: The University of Texas, The University of Houston, Texas A&M University and the Baylor University and University of Oklahoma graduate programs.
Collin’s sport management program offers tremendous access to local leisure/tourism and sport industries, exemplary professors with strong academic credentials in the field and coursework drawn from the outstanding physical education/athletics departments at Collin.
Registration for the fall semester begins June 27, and registration for the spring 2007 semester begins Nov. 28.
