Dance Fusion Highlights Three Companies

October 20, 2006 - Collin County Community College District (Collin) is bringing the spirit of dance to the area with its upcoming Dance Fusion.

This year's Dance Fusion will feature the Collin Dance Ensemble (CDE), Elledanceworks Dance Company and Houston Metropolitan Dance Company.

Performances will be at 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 3, and 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Spring Creek Campus John Anthony Theatre, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. Tickets are available at the door and cost $8 for general admission and $5 for students and senior citizens.

The CDE is the resident performing company for Collin under the direction of Tiffanee Arnold. The company hosts Dance Fusion, an annual dance event featuring local and regional dance companies. The CDE will perform "May the Circle Be Unbroken: The Family Knot," "Snapshots of American Graffiti," "Pit" and "A Vida da Floresta Tropical (Life of the Rainforest)."

The CDE tours throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth area performing in local concerts and festivals such as The Dallas Dance Festival, The Fort Worth Dance Festival: Up and Running, Dances at a Gathering at the Eisemann Center, The University of Texas at Dallas' Movement, Minds and Magic, Allen Dance Festival and Dallas' Dance for the Planet, to name a few. Former residencies include: Pilobolus Too, Eisenhower Dance Ensemble from Michigan, Elledanceworks Dance Company from Dallas and Taylor 2 of Paul Taylor Dance Company. The dance company attends and performs at the American College Dance Festival annually and has been selected for the Gala Performance at that festival five times.

Elledanceworks Dance Company was started by Ronelle Eddings and Michele Hanlon in 1997 as a one-time project. Now in its 10th season, the company, a non-profit organization, has built a reputation for extensive performances, quality choreography in a variety of settings. The company attracts choreographers from around the nation and eight of the 10 performers at Dance Fusion currently teach or recently taught at local universities, colleges and school districts. This company will perform "Fiona's Dance," "The Becoming" and "Lambdust" the showcase.

The Houston Metropolitan Dance Company has presented contemporary dance since 1995, mixing edgy styles of dance and music. The company has attracted choreographers from around the nation creating jazz, ballet, modern, tap and hip hop dance pieces. The company will perform "Shouldacouldawoulda," "What Lola Wants" and "Hysterical Silence" at Dance Fusion.
