Continuing Education Hosts Digital Photography Open House
December 30, 2006 - Collin County Community College District (Collin) Continuing Education will host a free open house for those interested in expanding their digital photography skills from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13 at the college's Courtyard Center for Professional and Economic Development, 4800 Preston Park Blvd. in Plano.
Attendees will learn about the digital photography courses offered by the college, including beginning and advanced-level courses. New courses being offered this spring include "Photographing Food and Jewelry" and "Presenting and Marketing Your Photographs."
Students in "Photographing Food and Jewelry" will learn basic lighting and preparation for photographing these subjects. "Presenting and Marketing Your Photographs" will provide a building block for students interested in photography as a career.
"The major photography schools are in California and New York City. For someone in Texas who desires to enter professional photography in these areas there is little option for exposure to professional methods and experience. These courses will provide a strong foundation to build a professional photography business or advance a hobby to a level of artistic expression," Terry Weir, course instructor, said.
Weir teaches these and many other Collin digital photography courses. He has 30 years of experience in the photography business, with 20 years in New York and five years in Europe in the fashion and advertising industry. His clients have included Neiman Marcus, Estee Lauder and the Zales Corp., among many others.
"Photography is more of a language than a profession or hobby. It allows people to express themselves in ways that words fall short. I always encourage the students to go far beyond their own expectations to a level of achievement that brings pride and satisfaction," said Weir.
Collin offers a variety of courses for students interested in a career or hobby in photography. For a full list of classes, visit www.collin.edu/ce.
