College Welcomes Grammy Winner To 15th Annual Jazz Fest
March 30, 2007- Collin College's 15th annual Jazz Fest will feature Grammy-winning saxophonist Bob Mintzer this weekend.
Mintzer, an arranger and composer, has been nominated for 13 Grammys over his career. In 2001, he won for his recording "Homage to Basie" for Best Large Ensemble. He will perform with Collin College jazz faculty at 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, March 30-31, at the Spring Creek Campus John Anthony Theatre, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. Tickets are still available for Friday's performance. Cost is $10 at the door.
Mintzer leads his own jazz quartet in addition to being a 15-year member of the jazz super-group, The Yellowjackets. He has performed with jazz and pop luminaries such as Buddy Rich, Thad Jones, Art Blakey, Jaco Pastorius, Tito Puente, Aretha Franklin, James Taylor and many more. His arrangements have become standards for big bands all over the world.
