Viewpoints Art Show Winners Announced

May 24, 2007 – THE ARTS gallery at Collin College announced the winners of the 2007 Viewpoints show. The annual juried show includes works in a variety of media and is open to all community college students in Texas.

The goal of the show is to encourage artistic values and to recognize excellence in the creation and presentation of fine art. For photographs of the winners and their works, please visit http://www.collin.edu/webgalleries/ArtsGallery/index.htm.

Carolyn Helvey of Bonham

Director's Choice:
Suzanne Hess of Plano

First Place:
2D: Burv Bossie of Plano
3D: Karen Sedita of Plano

Second Place:
2D: Charlotte Ware of Cedar Hill
3D: Beverly Fetterman of Dallas

Third Place:
2D: Tom Naylor of Richardson
3D: Mirtha Aertker of Allen

All winners received a cash stipend. Helvey will be the featured artist at a show for Collin College scholarship recipients at the gallery.

Melodee Martin Ramirez served as the juror for the show. Ramirez, a professor at North Lake College in Dallas, earned her master’s degree in painting from the University of Dallas. She previously studied with Kevin Macpherson, a California plein air painter, and Greg Kreutz of the New York Student Art League.

“Each year the submissions for the Viewpoints Juried Show increase. The work submitted is exceptional and every juror who has judged the show comments on how talented and accomplished the Collin College art students are,” said Vicki Mayhan, director of galleries.
