Auteur Film Series Features An Evening Of Shorts

Sept. 24, 2008 – “Short” is the buzzword for the Auteur Film Series’ October installment.

In conjunction with the Collin College Student Animators Workshop, the series will present “Shorts!” -- a series of short films which support the series’ theme of The Compleat Stranger: At Home Away From Home with the Immigrant Figure in Film.

“Shorts!” is set for 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Spring Creek Campus Conference Center, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Seating is limited. Some material may not be suitable for all audiences.

The short films featured include:

  • “The Immigrant”

    An immigrant encounters funny problems on his way to the USA.
  • “The Danish Poet”
    (Not rated, 2006, dir. Torill Kove, 14 minutes)
    A woman ponders the strange coincidences that made her forebears meet.
  • “West Bank Story”
    (Not rated, 2006, dir. Ari Sandel, 21 minutes)
    A musical comedy set in the fast-paced, fast-food world of competing falafel stands on the West Bank.
  • “Burning Safari”
    (Not rated, 2007, dir. Vincent Aupetit and Florent de la Taille, two minutes)
    A robot tourist from outer space has a difficult encounter with an ape-man.
  • “Herbstlaub”
    (Not rated, 2007, dir. Oliver Vogel, three minutes)
    A dot travels away from other dots and encounters a group of lines.
  • “Space”
    (Not rated, 2007, dir. Sang yeong Jeong, three minutes)
    Two kinds of aliens meet and struggle to find peace.
  • “The End”
    (Not rated, 2007, dir. Maxime Leduc and Michel Samreth, six minutes)
    A scarecrow befriends a bird; other scarecrows jail him for consorting with the enemy.
