Continuing Education Offers American Payroll Professional Learning Series Courses

January 30, 2009 - Significant changes have recently been made to the Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) and Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification exams as a result of job-task analysis performed by the American Payroll Association.

To better prepare for these tests, Collin College's Continuing Education is offering two courses through the American Payroll Professional Learning Series - PayTrain College & University - beginning in February at the Courtyard Center for Professional and Economic Development, 4800 Preston Park Blvd. in Plano.

The courses are PayTrain Fundamentals, a 10-session class from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Thursdays from Feb. 12-April 16, and PayTrain Mastery, a 9-session class from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturdays from Feb. 14-April 25.

The PayTrain Fundamentals course teaches the fundamental payroll calculations and applications, providing students with the basic knowledge and skills required to maintain payroll compliance and prevent costly penalties.

  • Paycheck fundamentals
  • Payroll Benefits Basics
  • Tax Reporting
  • Payroll Accounting
  • Professional Skills and Responsibilities

PayTrain Master is a comprehensive course providing students with a solid understanding of advanced payroll topics necessary for payroll managers and supervisors.

Topics covered in this course will include:

  • Employees vs. Ind. Contractors
  • Payroll Tax Reporting
  • Fair Labor Standards
  • Federal Taxation and Other Legislation
  • Payroll Accounting
  • Record Keeping and Systems
  • Payroll Management
