COLLIN COLLEGE PRESENTS JAZZ FEST FEATURING ROLLING STONES SAXOPHONIST TIM RIES

March 10, 2009 - Tim Ries has just returned from a second world tour with the Rolling Stones playing saxophone, keyboard and organ, and is now prepared to perform with Collin's Jaztet One, Texas Instruments Jazz Band, Collin's Latin Jazz Ensemble and Collin's Jazz Lab Band.

The event is scheduled for Friday-Saturday, March 27-28 with performances starting at 8 p.m. at the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. Performances will be in the John Anthony Theater and the Spring Creek Campus Conference center. Tickets for the shows will be available at the door for $8.

Guest artist Tim Ries has performed with such diverse talents as Donald Fagen, Paul Simon, Sheryl Crow, Lyle Lovett, Stevie Wonder, Blood Sweat & Tears, Bob Belden and David Lee Roth.

Ries, a graduate of the University of North Texas and the University of Michigan, Tim has served on the faculties of The New School, City College of New York and the Mannes College of Music. Tim is currently teaching saxophone and jazz combo at Rutgers and New Jersey City University. He frequently travels to other universities, jazz festivals and clinics as a teacher of saxophone, composition and improvisation. Tim uses Selmer saxophones exclusively, Francois Louis mouthpieces and Rico Reeds.

Starting at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, March 28, about 20 high school bands from around the Metroplex will perform and receiving ratings from judges. A schedule of events will be available on campus this day. The daytime events are free and open to the public.

The Friday evening performance will feature Ries with Collin's Jaztet One and the Texas Instruments Jazz Band and the Saturday evening performance will feature Ries with Collin's Latin Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab Band.
