June 19, 2009 - Collin College coaches Jim Sigona and Marty Berryman were named Coach of the Year in their respective sports this spring after leading their teams to a North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference basketball title and a fourth place finish at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tennis Tournament.

Sigona, who coached the Cougars to an 11-3 conference record and 27-5 overall mark, has been named Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Coach of the Year for a fourth time in his career.

“To win this award means that we had a pretty good team,” Sigona said. “They were a good group to coach this year and I couldn’t have won this award without the players.”

Berryman, a 1995 NJCAA Coach of the Year recipient and NJCAA men’s and women’s tennis Hall-of-Famer, was named coach of the year by the NJCAA Region 5. During his tenure, the men and women squads have won four national titles apiece.

“This is quite an honor for me and would not be possible if not for the hard work that the players put in,” Berryman said. “We had a pretty successful year, both men and women, with an overall record of 34-12.”
