Gallery Honors Hispanic Heritage Month With New Show

September 8, 2009 – For Hispanic Heritage Month, THE ARTS gallery is showcasing Hispanic artists Monday, Sept. 21-Friday, Oct. 9.

Hispanic Heritage Month runs from Sept. 15-Oct. 15 as a time to reflect about the accomplishments and contributions of the wide array of Hispanic artists, scientists, policy makers, leaders and others.

The gallery’s show – “Hispánica” – will feature ceramics, painting, photography and sculpture from local Hispanic artists. The exhibit was curated by Lupita Murillo Tinnen, chair and professor of photography, and Luke Sides, gallery director and professor of art.

The artists include: Mirtha Aertker, Rosemary Meza-DesPlas, Enrique Fernandez Cervantes, Omar Hernandez, Christina Medina, Valerie Ontiveros, Jim Bob Salazar, Shawn Saumell and Tinnen.

A reception is set for 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 29 at the gallery, which is located at the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway.

THE ARTS gallery hours are: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
