Event Showcases World Of Convergence Technology

April 10, 2010 – The Convergence Technology Center’s annual TechKnowFire event showcases the hottest careers in the nation.

The free event is set from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Friday, April 23, at the Spring Creek Campus Conference Center, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. TechKnowFire is open to the public or anyone seeking a new and cutting-edge career.

This year’s keynote speaker is Cali Lewis of GeekBrief.TV.

GeekBrief.TV has established a niche audience on the web through a series of three- to five-minute video podcasts released about four days a week. The show covers news about technology, consumer electronics and Web 2.0 projects.

Lewis is host of GeekBrief.TV and a well-known speaker and web personality, who specializes in helping others understand technology and social networking.

Also, Corey Kirkendoll, senior manager and design engineer at Cisco Systems, will speak at TechKnowFire. He will explore the hands-on voice-over Internet protocol demonstration and interactions.

TechKnowFire is designed to inform students about the new opportunities available in emerging technology. Other speakers include faculty from Collin College and the University of North Texas. In addition, break-out sessions will include hands-on demonstration with convergence technology application.

Convergence technology is one of the most popular and most-used innovations of the past half century. Look in anyone’s pocket or backpack and there’s evidence of convergence technology – the melding of voice, data, sound, touch and just about every other sense.

Convergence technology has led the way for MP3 players, iPhones, cell phones, the iPad, computers and much more.

Collin College is home to the state-of-the-art Convergence Technology Center at the Preston Ridge Campus in Frisco. It has helped train and educate hundreds of professionals in the field, many of which have entered the workforce and excelled.

Lunch will be provided. Registration is required. Seating is limited.
