Collin College To Host 10th Annual Biotech Conference June 24

June 10, 2010 – Collin College’s Biotechnology Educators Conference will celebrate its 10th anniversary when the annual event convenes on Thursday, June 24 at the Spring Creek Campus Conference Center, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway, in Plano.

Themed “Solutions for a Green Planet,” this year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Travis Miller, associate department head and extension program leader for Soil and Crop Sciences, Texas AgriLife Extension Service. Dr. Miller will discuss, “A Decade into the Biofuel Age: Will it Pencil Out?”

In addition to Dr. Miller, the conference will include lunch, a trade show, door prizes and a variety of green-themed breakout workshops.

Topics covered range from “The Power of the Wind,” “Dietary Habits of Urban Coyotes,” and “Biological Nitrogen Fixation” to “Water Quality and Safety,” “Biomass: A Renewable Resource” and “Forensic Science – Like TV but REAL!,” and more.

The conference is open to the public and targets primarily teachers, educators, county extension agents, outreach professionals and college students.  General admission is $30 and $20 for students. This fee includes lunch and admittance to Dr. Martin’s keynote address, participation in your choice of three breakout sessions and conference materials.

The conference is a collaborative effort of several institutions, including Collin College, Region 10 Education Service Center, AgriLife Extension Service and Texas Woman’s University.
