Collin College Tennis Team Wins National Championship; Hume Wins NJCAA National Singles Championship

June 23, 2010 – Collin College men’s tennis team capped off a brilliant season in May after the top-ranked squad shared its first National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I national championship with Tyler Junior College and Laredo Community College.

This year’s national championship is the fifth overall for the Cougars, who also received additional hardware when sophomore Damian Hume of Johannsburg, South Africa, won the Flight One singles title to become the 2010 NJCAA Men’s National Singles Champion.

Hume, the No. 1 ranked junior college player in the country, is also the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Player of the Year.

In addition to Hume’s accolades, cougar freshman Rodolfo Bustamante of Bauru, Brazil became Collin College’s third NJCAA men’s First Team All-American by winning the Flight Four singles title.

Collin College serves about 46,000 credit and continuing education students annually and offers more than 100 degree and certificate programs.
