Collin College Hosts Texas All Star Jazz Camp July 18 - 23

July 8, 2010 - The Music Department at Collin College presents the 16th annual Texas All Star Jazz Camp for students interested in performing with and learning from some of the best jazz musicians from across the country. The camp will be held from July 18 – 23 at the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano.

Enrollments are still being accepted for students age 13 and up with at least one year experience on their instrument.  Players on typical jazz band instruments including saxophones, trumpets, trombones, bass, piano, guitar and drums are encouraged to apply. The Texas All Star Jazz Camp involves more than 100 students and 20 faculty members. Faculty include Kris Berg, director of Jazz Studies at Collin College and special guest artist Jeff Clayton, lead alto of the highly acclaimed Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. Other faculty at the camp includes professional artists and teachers who have performed with jazz legends such as Count Basie, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Bob Mintzer, Buddy Rich and other great big bands.

Free jazz concerts

The Texas All Star Jazz Camp will feature nightly concerts, which are free and open to the public. All concerts will be held in the John Anthony Theatre at the college’s Spring Creek Campus. These nightly concerts will be held July 19-22 at 8 p.m. and feature all periods of big band music.  The closing concert on July 23 will begin at 6 p.m. and feature all the student bands.
