Fall Concert Features Jaztet One, The Texas Instruments Jazz Band
October 29, 2010 – The Collin College Department of Music will present the first jazz concert of the year highlighting the Jaztet One and The Texas Instruments Jazz Band.
The performance is 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 6 at the John Anthony Theatre located on the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano.
Tickets are $5 for general admission and free for students.
Jaztet One is the top jazz combo at Collin College and features four outstanding young jazz musicians. The quartet has a modern slant to it as they feature contemporary jazz pieces by Joshua Redman, Pat Metheny and Kenny Garrett, as well as their own up-dated versions of jazz classics such as Horace Silver's "Song for My Father" and Miles Davis' "All Blues". The group includes Josh Stover on alto sax, C.J. Thompson on guitar, Jarod Schmitt on drums and Corey Stanfield on bass.
The Texas Instruments Jazz Band is a full 20-piece big band consisting of saxes, trombones, trumpets and a rhythm section. The band is organized through the Texins Association (Dallas, Texas) of Texas Instruments. Don't let the amateur status of the band fool you. The group has performed at Artfest, Montage, The Meyerson Symphony Center, The Starplex Amphitheater, the Loyola University Jazz Festival and The Texas State Jazz Festival. Artists who have performed with the band include Clark Terry, Kurt Elling, Peter Erskine, Randy Brecker, Delfeayo Marsalis, Gregg Bissonette, Lorraine Feather and Kevin Mahogany. The band performed at the world renowned Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland in July 2000.
