New Date, Location Highlights 2011 Dr. King Celebration

January 11, 2011– The community is encouraged to join in honoring the legacy and dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the annual Power Breakfast and Power Walk for Unity. This year’s celebration is set for Saturday, Jan. 15.

The Power Breakfast, presented by Collin College, is set for 8:30 a.m. at the Southfork Hotel, 1600 N. Central Expressway in Plano.

The breakfast will be followed by the Power Walk for Unity at 10:30 a.m. starting at the DART Rail Parker Road station, north parking lot, 2600 Archerwood St. in Plano.

Texas State Senator Florence Shapiro will open the breakfast followed by a 15-minute public question-and-answer segment moderated by Collin College president Dr. Cary A. Israel. The highlight will be a college student presentation titled “Past, Present and Future,” prepared by leaders from several Collin College student organizations.

The purpose of the Power Breakfast is to create a venue for the exchange of ideas and an avenue for understanding.

Collin College students can enter into a drawing for a book scholarship. Students must be present to win.
