Collin College Welcomes Renowned Historian

January 27, 2011 – Collin College will host noted author and historian Dr. David E. Shi from 11:30 a.m.-noon, Thursday, Feb. 10. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Dr. Shi will present “The Great Recession and Simpler Living” at the Living Legends Conference Center located on the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano.

Dr. Shi is the author of The Simple Life: Plain Living and High Thinking in American Culture. Two of his other books were nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. He co-authored the best-selling textbook, America: a Narrative History, now in its eighth edition. He is also the author of a number of essays for newspapers such as The Christian Science Monitor, The Charlotte Observer, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Philadelphia Inquirer.

He served as president of Furman University, his alma mater, and completed his master’s and doctoral degrees at the University of Virginia.

Dr. Shi’s visit is sponsored by the Communications and Humanities Division and Social and Behavioral Sciences division.
