CE Offers Solar Power Course

March 8, 2011 – Collin College Continuing Education has slated a solar energy system installation course.

Passive Solar Energy: Collection and Use is set for Tuesdays from 6:30-9:30 p.m. starting March 22 through April 12. All classes are at Plano Senior High School, 2200 Independence Parkway in Plano.

The course will explore different passive solar energy systems and their optimal use. Students will learn to integrate passive solar energy building techniques with passive solar heating, cooling and lighting; select appropriate and specific passive solar energy systems for residential or commercial building types; and conceptualize the use of the Heliodon to compile passive solar energy collection data.

“In today’s economy, the rising cost of energy is a vital concern.  This course is designed to help us exploit one of the most underutilized, most abundant and available of our energy sources, the sun,” instructor John Donaghey said. “In these four classes, we will explore how best to harvest day lighting, provide passive space conditioning and match appropriate systems to your built environment.”

The course costs $299. Call 972.599.3117 or visit for more information.
