Collin Theatre Center Presents A Slice of Americana
April 4, 2012 – The Collin Theatre Center is elated to present Our American Cousin.
Our American Cousin will run from Thursday, April 26-Sunday, May 6 at the Black Box Theatre located on the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano.
Performances will be at 8 p.m., with matinees at 2:15 p.m. April 29 and May 5-6. Tickets are $10 and seating is general admission.

Our American Cousin is a classic farce that tells of the introduction of an awkward, boorish American to his aristocratic British relatives when he travels to England to claim the family estate. This hilarious script has been performed around the world, yet it is perhaps best known as the play that President Abraham Lincoln was attending when he was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth in 1865.
The Collin Theatre Center version of Our American Cousin will be directed by Robin Armstrong with a setting in the 1920s. When asked why she would choose a play with stale old humor Armstrong said, “I thought you might enjoy the rare opportunity to take part in a tiny piece of American History. And think how smug you’ll sound at parties when you state that you’ve actually seen a production of Our American Cousin.”
Our American Cousin is a slice of American history that is rarely performed on the stage. Collin Theatre Center will tackle this historic show with a modern update and unique interpretation by director Robin Armstrong. Armstrong also believes it’s important for the acting students at Collin College to explore a wide range of acting styles and this show certainly affords many opportunities for that exploration.
