New Commercial Aviation Course Added for Fall 2012
August 20, 2012 –Collin College Continuing Education is introducing a new aviation program course, Commercial Ground School, for individuals interested in a commercial pilot career.
This 32-hour course prepares students for the FAA Commercial Pilot written exam and satisfies the knowledge requirements for the commercial license. Topics cover complex systems, aircraft performance, weight and balance calculations, the FARs, airspace and weather. After satisfactory completion of the nine-week course, students are eligible to take the FAA written exam. Course fee does not include the FAA exam fee.
Classes will be from 6:30-9:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 18-Dec. 20 at the Courtyard Center, 4800 Preston Park Blvd. in Plano. The course fee is $169.
Students interested in learning more about the course, asking questions and reviewing textbooks should attend a free information session Instrument and Commercial Pilot Requirements from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 1 at the Courtyard Center.
Continuing Education is also hosting two additional free Information Sessions at the Courtyard Center:
- How to Become a Pilot 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1
- Convective Weather 9-11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 8

- Private Pilot Ground School from 7-10 p.m., Mondays, Sept. 10-Dec. 17 at the Collin Higher Education Center, 3452 Spur 399, in McKinney.
- Instrument Rating Ground School, held 6:30-9:30 p.m., Tuesdays, Sept. 11-Dec. 18 at the Courtyard Center.
- Advanced Weather for Pilots, held 7-10 p.m., Thursdays, Sept. 13-Oct. 11 at the Courtyard Center.
