New Continuing Education Training Starts in September

Includes OSHA, event planning, lean manufacturing, child care center director courses

August 24, 2012 –Collin College Continuing Education is introducing new Career and Technical courses and programs in workforce training starting September. Registration is open now.

New courses include:

  • OSHA 10-hour – Construction Safety
    7-9 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 4-18
    Students will be able to identify personal protective equipment.  Identify common electrical hazards. Understand the importance of scaffolding and fall protection for workers in elevated workplaces. Recognize the hazards associated with working in or around excavation sites. Understand the requirements for fire protection in the workplace. OSHA is the main federal agency charged with the enforcement of safety and health legislation.  Continuing Education is now providing training through two OSHA courses for workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in workplaces.   • OSHA 30-hour -- General Industry Safety
    6:30-9:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 25-Oct.25
    Students will learn how to employ recordkeeping and reporting for safety.  Identify walking and working surfaces. Understand and identify hazardous materials. Employ medical procedures and first aid.  Understand electrical and machine safety guidelines.  Employ general environmental controls.  Employ Lead Safety guidelines in the workplace. Course cost is $159.   • Event Planning
    6:30-9:30 p.m., Mondays, Sept.17-Nov. 5
    The Event Planning course will cover design, planning, implementation and evaluation of special events in eight weeks for a total of 24 hours class time.  Students will build a foundation that can be used to start a career in special events or launch their own special event business.   • Lean Manufacturing Certificate Series
    12:30-4:30 p.m., Saturdays, Sept. 22-Dec. 15
    The Lean Manufacturing Certificate Series is designed to give students an introduction to Lean manufacturing principles used in all organizations and industries. Students will practice process improvement techniques, employ the 5S (+S) safety program and suggestion systems that support your lean process. Create and work within lean teams to improve your business operation’s quality, cost, time and customer service.  The first course in this 48-hour, 12 session series is Introduction to Lean Manufacturing.   • Child Care Center Directors Management Training Certificate Series
    9 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Saturdays, Sept. 29, Oct. 27, Feb. 16, 2013, March 30, 2013
    Texas now requires all Child Care Center Directors to obtain 30 hours of training annually.  Continuing Education has developed a four-part, 30-hour, Child Care Center Directors Management Training Certificate Series. The first course in this certificate series is Management Techniques.The certificate series fee is $375 for the four sessions or $99 for the individual session.
