New Continuing Education Training Courses Start In January
Jan. 2, 2013 – Collin College Continuing Education will introduce new career training courses in January that provide skills for business, technical or creative careers.
Among the new courses are Smart Grid Technology, Adobe CS6, Creative Writing and Retail Management. These courses will meet at the Courtyard Center, 4800 Preston Park Blvd., in Plano.
Smart Grid Management Certificate Series from 7–9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Jan. 15- April 4. The 24-session, 48-hour Smart Grid Management certificate series examines the specific applications of a smart grid and how it improves the reliability and efficiencies of the power grid. Certificate Series fee: $1,159. Courses in the series include:
- Introduction to US Power Industry
- Electric Systems Fundamentals
- Electric Markets Overview
- Smart Meters and Grid Fundamentals
- Applying Analytics to Smart Meter Data
- Grid Technologies, Implications and Incentives

Introduction to Adobe Creative Suite 6 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, and Fridays from Jan. 23- Feb. 1. This five-session, 15-hour course allows students to register to take the course using a PC or Mac computer. Students will gain basic knowledge and skills in Adobe Acrobat, PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign and receive an introduction to Creative Cloud. Course fee: $139. Thought for Food from 9 a.m.–noon on Saturdays from Jan. 26- March 2. Thought for Food is a creative writing course where the students’ focus will be writing about the food industry, conducting restaurant interviews and meeting chefs. Retail Management Certificate Series from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays from Jan. 28- March 27. This 48-hour, 16-session certificate series is designed for individuals seeking retail management career opportunities. Students will examine retail operations, logistics, display, price, location and retail management. Certificate Series fee: $259. Courses in this series include:
- Introduction to Retail Management
- Retail Planning and Supply
- Retail Visuals, Displays and Pricing
- Contemporary Issues in Retail Management
