Collin College Honored for Financial Transparency

October 28, 2013 – As a result of the utmost commitment to accountability, Collin College has achieved Gold Level Financial Transparency status, which is awarded by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.

The comptroller’s office began the Leadership Circle program to recognize local governments across Texas that strive “to meet a high standard for financial transparency online.” The gold award is the top status in the program, and, to date, the comptroller has only honored two colleges or universities in the state at this level – Collin College and the Dallas County Community College District.

According to Collin College President Cary Israel, “The Board of Trustees and I believe it is critically important to ensure transparency regarding the college’s financial and transactional data in an effort to assure the taxpayers and community that this college strives for and adheres to the highest standards of accountability.”

The Gold Leadership Circle Award specifically recognizes Collin College for posting its budget, financial reports, tax information, check registers, investment data and other information for the public by providing a clear, consistent presentation of financials in a user-friendly format. To receive gold status, institutions must achieve at least 16 out of 20 total points in transparency ratings criteria.

Ralph Hall, vice president of administration and chief financial officer for Collin College, praised his staff for processing and posting the volumes of records involved. “I would like to personally thank all the individuals in the business office who worked diligently on this project.  For Collin College to score 19 out of 20 total points is an incredible achievement.”

The rating, which highlights entities that set the bar with transparency efforts, is effective for one year. Collin College financial transparency reports can be found by visiting http://www.collin.edu/financials/index.html.
