Collin College Welcomes Award-Winning Author

February 18, 2014 - Kristen Iversen, Colorado Book Award winner and author of Full Body Burden: Growing up in the Nuclear Shadow of Rocky Flats, will visit Collin College campuses March 4-6 for a writer’s workshop, book signings and question and answer events.

Through her book, Full Body Burden, Iversen examines her life growing up near the Rocky Flats nuclear facility and ensuing struggle upon learning that the facility was leaking dangerous nuclear contaminants.

Book-in-Common coordinator and Collin College English professor Betty Bettacchi said Iversen’s captivating story serves as an inspiration.

Full Body Burden shows students that they need to critically question situations which arise and not blindly accept given explanations,” Bettacchi said. “A single voice can be important in righting a wrong.”
