Collin College Trustees Name New Building In Honor Of Longest-Standing PresidentNov. 13, 2014 – Last week, the Collin College Board of Trustees unveiled plans to name a new building as the “Cary A. Israel Health Sciences Center” honoring the second and longest-standing president in the history of the college.
President Israel announced his resignation recently following a milestone year for the college. Trustees announced their tribute to him during a farewell reception at the Central Park Campus library in McKinney where the ceremony venue overlooked the future home of the building that would bear his name.
“Cary forever changed Collin College, and we cannot thank him enough for his leadership, distinguished service and tireless dedication over the course of nearly 16 years,” said Board of Trustees chairman Mac Hendricks. “He took the college to a new level of excellence, so it is only fitting that his name be immortalized on a showcase building at our original campus.”
The Cary A. Israel Health Sciences Center is under construction and will be completed in late 2015. The building will be a three-story, 125,000-square-foot health science center located on the northeast side of the campus. It will feature state-of-the-art hospital labs for students in nursing, emergency services, surgical technology, respiratory care and polysomnographic technology (sleep disorders) as well as classrooms and faculty offices. The Cary A. Israel Health Sciences Center will also house an expansive simulation lab with a collection of advanced human patient simulators used by students to practice clinical procedures.
Collin College opened the Central Park Campus in 1986. The campus, located at 2200 W. University Drive in McKinney, has always been home to the health sciences for the district, but the new building allows for expansion of the college’s award-winning programs as the college responds to explosive growth in the demand for health care professionals.
Collin College serves approximately 52,000 credit and continuing education students annually and offers more than 100 degrees and certificates in a wide range of disciplines. The only public college in the county, Collin College is a partner to business, government and industry, providing customized training and work force development.
