"Rock the Vote" Voter Registration at Collin College

Feb. 10, 2015 – Collin College's Center for Scholarly and Civic Engagement wants people to "Rock the Vote" and is partnering with the Collin County League of Women Voters to get people registered.

The college will hold registration drives at three of its major campuses, Tuesday-Thursday, Feb. 24-26. The times and locations are:

  • 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 24 at The Cougar Den, Preston Ridge Campus, 9700 Wade Blvd., Frisco
  • 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 25 in the atrium of the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Pkwy., Plano
  • 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 26 in the atrium of the Central Park Campus, 2200 W. University Drive, McKinney

The voter registration drive is a convenient way for students, faculty, staff and the public to get registered, according to Dr. Terry Hockenbrough, director of Collin's Center for Scholarly and Civic Engagement. The program is part of the college's continuing efforts to get students and faculty involved in civic life.

"In order to vote in a way that makes a difference, you need to be an educated voter, but you also have to be registered," Hockenbrough said. "You can have all the knowledge and opinions you want, but if you don't give yourself a voice, it doesn't mean anything."

Collin College serves nearly 53,000 credit and continuing education students annually and offers more than 100 degrees and certificates in a wide range of disciplines. The only public college in the county, Collin College is a partner to business, government and industry, providing customized training and work force development.
