'Lord of the Rings' Movie Ties Into Leadership Discussion
College Screens ‘Lord of the Rings’ Movie As Part Of Leadership Discussion
July 14, 2015 – Collin College will screen “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers” as a special summertime edition of its Leadership in the Movies series starting at 6 p.m., Thursday, July 23 at the college’s Spring Creek Campus, Room L201. The screening is free and open to the public. Pizza and drinks will be provided.
The Leadership in the Movies series examines the role of leadership in film. The screening will be followed by a lively faculty-led discussion about the decisions made in the movie and how they reflect good or poor leadership choices. The series gives viewers specific examples of leadership or the lack thereof to discuss outside of a classroom setting, according to Dr. Terry Hockenbrough, director of Collin College’s Center for Scholarly and Civic Engagement.
This film ties into the theme of the college’s “Leading the Pride” Student Leadership Camp, planned for August. The camp’s theme is “Giants, Wizards and Dwarves: The Power of Heroes” and will focus on leadership lessons from the “Lord of the Rings” series. The movies are presented in cooperation with the college’s Leadership Empowerment and Development program (LEAD) and Leadership Development Institute (LDI).
