Kicks Off Collin College Alumni Fun Run
March 8, 2016 – Collin College alumna, Olympic gold medalist Carly Patterson will serve as honorary chair of the alumni association’s first official fundraising event—the CougarRun 5K and Fun Run. Wrapping up Founders Week, the run is presented by Title Sponsor State Farm and The Pride, Collin College’s association for alumni and friends, which was initiated in 2015 to commemorate the college’s 30th anniversary. Open to the public and slated as a family event, both the 5K and Fun Run begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 9 at the Collin College Preston Ridge Campus, 9700 Wade Boulevard in Frisco.
Patterson will kick off the event, and various fun activities for children will be available including a special appearance of Collin Cougar. Certified by the Frisco Running Company, the running course will start at Lawler Hall, and free parking will be available on the college’s campus. Participants and observers can seek out unique items at numerous vendor booths, learn more about the college and visit the Collin Bookstore table to purchase Collin College spirit wear and pile on college bling.
Event proceeds will exclusively benefit students through the Collin Alumni Scholarship Fund. According to Collin College District President Dr. Neil Matkin, this inaugural, family event will be filled with excitement and laughter emanating from children and adults, but most importantly it sustains a great cause.
“The Collin Alumni Scholarship Fund’s goal is to ensure that no student will be denied a college education because of financial barriers. Collin College holds a national, award-winning record of academic achievements, and I believe that each individual who wishes to change the course of his or her life via education should have that opportunity. I want to personally thank those who are championing this vital cause,” Dr. Matkin said.
Event registration includes a t-shirt, designed by college alumna and graphic artist Karen Carillo; a CougarRun swag bag, sponsored by Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union (RBFCU); a completers medal and chip timing for each registrant.
Early bird registration featuring a $25 fee, a $5 price reduction, is available through March 15. Medals will be awarded to the overall male and female finisher and winners in five-year age divisions.
