Collin College Honored by Phi Theta Kappa and Coca-Cola

May 11, 2016 – One of more than 1,900 applicants, Collin College student Rebecca Wyant-Miller was selected as a 2016 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Silver Scholar; Collin College students Anna Cavnar, Mona Azzo, David Schletewitz and Rebecca Wyant-Miller were named to the All-Texas Academic Team; and Collin College’s Alpha Mu Tau chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society recently won several awards.

The college chapter was named a Five-Star chapter and received the Honors in Action Award of Merit. PTK advisor Dr. Jessica Hargis, professor of political science, and students Emma Devine, Brian Duncan and Selena Mungia were named to the District II Hall of Honor. Shirley Harmon, executive assistant to the district president and secretary to the board of trustees, was recognized as a Friend of Texas. 

On the regional level, Dr. Nicole Grose, professor of biology, was named to the Advisor Hall of Honor. Student Emma Devine was named to the Member Hall of Honor and student Jasmine Beal was named to the Alumni Hall of Honor.

On the international level, Dr. Nicole Grose was awarded a Paragon Award for New Advisors, student Emma Devine was named a Distinguished Chapter Member and the Alpha Mu Tau chapter was named a Top 10 Relay for Life Team. The Collin College team was third in the nation, raising more than $4,000.

Collin College serves nearly 52,000 credit and continuing education students annually and offers more than 100 degrees and certificates. The only public college in the county, Collin College is a partner to business, government and industry, providing customized training and work force development. In addition, the college operates the Collin Higher Education Center, which serves 3,300 additional students each year in partnership with The University of Texas at Dallas, Texas Woman’s University, Texas A&M Commerce, Texas Tech and the University of North Texas.
