Jan. 10, 2017  – Collin College Continuing Education hosted its inaugural SOAR awards for noncredit English language development course achievement. These noncredit courses focus on English language development and offer various levels to accommodate the diverse language skills, goals and achievement of our students. Level 5 is the highest level of these courses, with specializations in Grammar, Pronunciation, Speaking, Reading and Writing.

“The study of languages and culture is transformational,” said Dr. Jennifer Blalock, vice president of workforce & economic development at Collin College. “Our Communications Improvement (ESL) courses seek to help build bridges to social, professional and personal growth. This event allowed us to celebrate and showcase that growth, achievement and development."

The awards ceremony also recognized long-time educator Betty Kiowski as the ESL Outstanding Instructor Award recipient for the 2016-2017 academic year.

“More than 100 ESL students and family members attended,” said Jim Merritt, program manager for creative careers at Collin College Continuing Education.  “It really meant a lot to them to be recognized and having an event just for them.  The instructors and staff were thrilled to be a part of celebrating our students and their hard work.
