Collin College Hosts National Poetry Month Events

March 31, 2017 – Collin College's fifth annual celebration of National Poetry Month will include both day and evening events. The college will host "Off the Page and On-Campus: A Celebration of National Poetry Month" at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18 and "An Evening with Marilyn Nelson" at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 27 at the Preston Ridge Campus Conference Center located at 9700 Wade Boulevard in Frisco. Both events are free and open to the public.

The interactive daytime event includes poetry readings by students and faculty. Featured poems will be readers' canonical favorites as well as original poetry written by the reader. Refreshments will be served.

The evening event showcases the work of national, award-winning poet Marilyn Nelson. Nelson is the author or translator of 17 poetry books for adults and children. She held the office of Poet Laureate of the State of Connecticut from 2001-2006, and her memoir was named one of NPR's Best Books of 2014.
