Collin College Commencement Slated for May 12

April 28, 2017 ­– Collin College will honor the Class of 2017 with a commencement ceremony at 7 p.m., Friday, May 12 at the Allen Event Center, 200 E. Stacy Road in Allen.

Olympic Gold Medalist and Collin College Alumna Carly Patterson will deliver the commencement address. Patterson won three medals in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece – two silvers for team and individual performances and a gold as the 2004 Olympic All-Around Champion. Patterson was the first American woman in 20 years to win the All-Around Olympic gold medal since Mary Lou Retton in 1984. She was chosen for the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2009. A staunch supporter of education, Patterson earned her associate of arts degree from Collin College and a bachelor’s degree from Texas Woman’s University.

Founded in 1985, Collin College held its first graduation May 16, 1987. Since its inception with a lone campus in McKinney, the college has grown to offer seven locations throughout the district.

In addition, the college operates the Collin Higher Education Center, which serves 3,100 additional students each year in partnership with The University of Texas at Dallas, Texas Woman’s University, Texas A&M Commerce, Texas Tech and the University of North Texas.
