Community Partnerships 2007-2008

Collin College holds dear its relationships within the community, whether it's honoring leaders and volunteers as Living Legends or donating time and resources to events like Give Kids a Smile. This page will showcase those instances and celebrate that bond between higher education and the community that supports it.

Community Partnerships

Zero Tolerence Of Violence hosted the fifth annual Candlelight Vigil with The Turning Point to raise awareness about sexual assault. Also, the program has partnered with The Turning Point and Hope's Door to educate about 570 Collin College students about healthy relationships, stalking, relationship violence and sexual assault.

McKinney ISD recognized Collin College and the Central Park Campus as one of its Partners In Education (PIE) for its current and growing commitment to and engagement in the REACH student mentoring program; support of the Texas Scholars program through presentations and college communications to participating students; ongoing efforts of Collin College faculty, staff and administrators toward growing the enrollment of under-represented populations in higher education; and general support of the McKinney Education Foundation and its shared goal of assuring more students can afford to attend college.

Collin College hosted an Earth Day celebration at the Preston Ridge Campus in April in coordination with the city of Frisco.

In October, members of Collin College’s fire academy class No. 39 participated in “The Kids Workshop” part of the free “How To” clinics held at the McKinney Home Depot. Fire Academy students worked side by side helping children ages 5-12 build wooden fire trucks to mark the beginning of fire prevention week. More than 150 fire trucks kits were assembled.

Research scientists Alexa Williams and Don Strickert from Frito-Lay made a presentation to more than 200 students and faculty September 2007. This program was presented by Frito-Lay and CASMNS, and is part of a cooperative effort between Frito Lay and Collin that will involve sharing speakers and student internships.
