Collin College’s nursing program announced that the National League of Nursing (NLN) has named it a Center of Excellence in Nursing Education™. Collin College’s nursing program is Texas’ first and only Center of Excellence in Nursing Education. Of the more than 1,800 nursing programs in the country, only 19 have been named a Center of Excellence.

Collin College’s Administrative Services Office has won its sixth consecutive Achievement in Excellence in Procurement Award from the National Purchasing Institute. Collin College is one of only 35 agencies in Texas and one of only 20 higher education agencies in the nation to receive this year’s award.

Collin College’s chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, the national honor society for education, was recently spotlighted on the society’s national website for its civic engagement in collecting books for children at the Samaritan Inn.

For the second straight year, the Corporation for National and Community Service named Collin College to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.The honor recognizes higher education institutions that reflect the values of exemplary community service and achieve meaningful outcomes in their communities. It is one of the highest levels of recognition of the federal government for commitment to service and civic engagement.The Corporation for National and Community Service, which has administered the Honor Roll since 2006, admitted a total of 641 colleges and universities for their impact on issues from literacy and neighborhood revitalization to supporting at-risk youth.

At its March meeting, the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission affirmed the continuing accreditation status of Collin College’s nursing program following the addition of a new teaching location at the Medical Center of McKinney.

PBK Architects has been informed that the Collin Higher Education Center received the “Platinum Award for Best Designer Element” for the central atrium in the Higher Education Center.  The award was presented by as part of its second annual College Designer Collabetition.

The National Junior College Athletic Association’s (NJCAA) recently awarded Collin College the annual Men’s National Tennis Tournament for 2012, 2013 and 2014. Collin College first held the tournament in 2002. This year’s tournament is set for Monday-Friday, May 16-20 at the Maureen Connolly Brinker Center Court at Collin College’s Spring Creek Campus in Plano. The Collin Higher Education Center is featured in the December 2010 issue of American School & University as one of the designs included on the 2011 Industry Events Calendar for School Designs.  CHEC is featured on the January 2011 Events Calendar.  Additionally, PBK Architect’s project details for the Central Park Campus Library is currently featured on

Trustee Jenny McCall was honored as the recipient of the 2010 James H. Boswell Award by Star Children's Charity. The award is given annually to an individual who exemplifies leadership and community philanthropic spirit.

The Collin Higher Education Center was, again, acknowledged at the McKinney Chamber Awards Celebration with the "Institutional Building Design Award" Feb. 18.

Collin College was awarded eight Medallion Awards in Denver by District IV of the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations. Gold Medallions were won for Government/Community Relations – "Gridiron Scholarship Blitz"; Promotional Campaigns – 25th Anniversary Celebration; Media Success Story – "Crisis Averted: Gunman on Campus"; Wildcard – "Alumni Anthology eBook"; and Feature Writing – "Guitar Heroes: Collin College program has axes to grind." Silver Medallions were won for: Newsletters – Connection community newsletter; and Bronze Medallions were won for: Invitations & Notecards – 2009 Living Legends invitation; and Feature Writing – "Briggs' are first brothers to graduate in same fire academy class."
