Collin College was recently awarded a $133,626 grant to develop a brand new industry-recognized energy certification from the State Energy Conservation Office (SECO). The college is working with the Texas Institute, a nonprofit energy and technology innovation driven research group at The University of Texas at Dallas to develop curriculum for a Smart Grid Management certification targeted to new and current commercial and residential energy sector employees.

Collin College, in partnership with The Texas Institute, a local nonprofit organization with extensive expertise in the electric grid, electric systems, and smart meters, was chosen by the Texas State Energy Conservation Office to develop a Smart Grid Management Certification Program. The grant award of $133,626 will be used to develop curriculum to train the next generation of Texans to become Smart Grid Managers.

The Plano Rotary Club donated $30,000 to the Collin College Foundation in February, which will be used to provide scholarships to nursing students.
