Counseling Services Offered
Students can meet individually, in a confidential setting, with a counselor to discuss a variety of issues, such as coping with stress and anxiety, depression, grief, relationship difficulties, and other personal concerns. Counselors can also help students learn assertive communication, time management, and study strategies.
The primary mission of Counseling Services is to provide goal-focused assistance in order to facilitate students' college adjustment and success. Off-campus resources are also available when requested or deemed appropriate.
Career counseling is available to assist currently enrolled students in choosing and confirming a major, creating an action plan to reach educational goals, and learning about the "world of work."
Students can make an initial, confidential appointment with a career counselor. Counselor and student will create a personalized plan (which may include assessments) enabling the student to expand self-awareness and interests related to career development.
Counseling Services does not offer couples/family counseling at present. However, the Center for Family Counseling at SMU Plano (972.473.3456) offers couples/family counseling to Collin students at no charge (with a current Collin ID). Please contact Counseling Services for additional referrals.
