A consortium of manufacturing and construction companies has partnered with Collin College to provide job training using an $808,066 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The grant will be used to custom train 455 new and incumbent workers to program and maintain equipment and will provide high-end Lean manufacturing training to assist the businesses in improving manufacturing processes by upgrading employee skills, developing new methods to improve productivity, and lessening waste. Those trained with the grant include assemblers, technicians and brake press operators. Upon completion of training, the workers will earn an average hourly wage of $20.97. TWC Commissioner Andres Alcantar will present at check to Collin College Board Chair Brenda Willard Goodell and representatives of the partnering businesses at a ceremony to be held at the Collin College Higher Education Conference Board Room, 3452 Spur 399 in McKinney.
