Course Description:
This course will offer detailed training and exercises on effectively implementing an emergency management program and a crisis management plan designed for business continuity in a healthcare environment amid a crisis and/or threat.  Emerging issues, changes in state and federal standards, and the critical role of a prepared workforce will be discussed. Additionally, this course will provide healthcare professionals with comprehensive training, skills, and techniques on recognizing, preventing, intervening, communicating through, de-escalating, and offering conflict resolution in situations that include crises and threats within the workplace.

Learning Objectives:
1.      Describe a comprehensive emergency management program.

2.    List state and federal standards for the workplace.

3.     Document different tips and tools for personal preparedness.

4.    Demonstrate competency in recognizing and intervening in potential threats within the healthcare work environment.

5.     Demonstrate the ability to minimize or eliminate the need for coercive and/or restrictive intervention methods.

6.     Demonstrate effective communication styles when faced with a crisis or threats within the workplace.

7.     Apply effective de-escalation skills, techniques, and conflict resolution methods when faced with a workplace crisis, and/or threats.
