We are never too old to stop learning, and if you think you’ve learned everything there is to know, then you really need an education.
There’s an art to everything. Karen Otto’s job and what she teaches her
students is how to make an impression. She’s an impressionist, so to speak.
Otto owns Home Star Staging in Plano and she teaches a home staging course with Collin College’s Continuing Education.
Home staging is the act of utilizing a private residence’s strengths and space in order to prepare for sale. For example, if you’ve ever noted how good the interior of a house for sale looks, that’s the art behind home staging. The better a home looks, the likelihood of it being sold quicker and before other house increases.
“Home staging is the perfect blend of marketing and home design that can set a home for sale apart from the competition,” Otto said. “As a working home stager in the north Texas market, I not only teach what I practice, but I practice what I teach. I bring current home-selling situations, problems and solutions into the classroom experience on a real-time basis.”
Otto earned a bachelor of business administration in marketing from Florida International University in 1993 and received her Accredited Staging Professional (ASP) designation in 2006.
That year, she started Home Star Staging and started teaching at Collin College two years later.
“When I started my own business, I realized that at any point in your life you can start, recreate and reinvent yourself or just enjoy learning about subjects that interest you,” Otto said. “We are never too old to stop learning, and if you think you’ve learned everything there is to know, then you really need an education.”
