Program Information
The mission of the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program is to prepare graduates through a contemporary and interactive curriculum to obtain the skills and character to positively affect their community as entry-level physical therapist assistants working under the direction and supervision of a licensed physical therapist.

The PTA program includes a selective admission process. Only one cohort made up of 24 students is formed per year out of an expected 75-125 applications.
In order to apply for the PTA program, you must:
- Apply and be admitted to Collin
- Attend a PTA Zoom information session
Admission to the program is based on a scoring rubric covering the following categories:
- Three letters of recommendation
- Observation hours
- Prerequisite GPA
- ATI TEAS scores
- Previous degree(s)
- Completion of Rehab Aide Program
- Interview
- Writing Activity

Physical Therapist Assistant students must be able to perform essential functions during participation in the PTA program, while on clinical, and on the job following graduation. Four steps to register
The first step in the process is to apply and be admitted to Collin College.
Apply to Collin CollegeBefore applying to the PTA program, prospective applicants must attend a Zoom information session. Click on the link below to see the dates and times of the information sessions and to register for a session. Each session will be 45 minutes long. New information sessions will begin in September 2025 for the 2026 application cycle.

*Completed within the last five years of the date of application
View the Prerequisite RequirementsApplicants are required to take the ATI TEAS test for Allied Health. Your overall score on the TEAS test will be counted on the Scoring Rubric. The minimum score needed to be considered for admission is as follows:
- Composite (Total) Score = 50%
- Reading = 60%
- Human Anatomy and Physiology = 50%
Scores can only be reported from August through April of the application period up
to two times. Scores cannot be combined from two different testing times, and scores
from only one attempt can be used. The applicant is financially responsible for the
test cost and study materials. Visit the TEAS website for more information by clicking

- Observation, volunteer, and work hours are accepted
- Minimum of 20 hours required
- Up to 40 hours may be submitted for additional points
- Hours must be from two different entities with eight hours minimum from each
- A supervising physical therapist or physical therapist assistant must verify your hours by signing the form
- Place the form in a standard mailing envelope and seal the envelope
- Supervising PT/PTA must sign the outside of the envelope across the seal
- Place in application packet envelope and submit with the application
- Three recommendations are required: two from a PT/PTA and one from your PTHA 1409 instructor
- Recommender must be the one who completes the PTA Recommendation Form
- Place the form in a standard mailing envelope and seal the envelope
- Recommender must sign the outside of the envelope across the seal
- Place in application packet envelope and submit with the application
