An Emphasis Area is a list of courses that fit within a discipline and may fulfill requirements for a degree. Since each university might have different coursework, Collin College offers a wide variety of course so you can select the ones that work for your chosen transfer school. Collin College does not offer degrees in these areas so you must check with the college you intend to transfer to for information on the courses they want you to take.
Many Texas colleges have joined together to provide you degree plans that begin at Collin College and are completed at a Texas university. Talk to your advisor for assistance in deciding which of these best fit your interests.
Certain courses that are not specific to your area of study will be included in your degree plan. These courses help you develop the foundational skills that every employer is looking for in a job candidate.
The Texas Core includes 42 hours of these general education courses and if you complete all of them at Collin College, any public university in the state is required to accept them as your completed core. "Core Complete" will be noted on your transcript when you have completed all courses.
