ESL Assessments

Sign up to take the ESL Test

  1. Test Requirements

    ■  Students taking the ESL Assessment must have a CWID (College Wide Identification) Number. This number is assigned to students by the Admissions and Records Office. To apply to Collin College and receive your CWID, click here.

     

    ■  All new students who want to enroll in ESL credit classes at the Plano Campus must take the ESL Assessment before registering. The ESL Assessment is limited to one attempt every six months.

  2. Sign up for Your Exam

    ESL Assessments can be scheduled at the campus links below during windows of availability set by the ESL Coordinator. The assessment must be started at least four hours before closing each day. There is no fee for the ESL Assessment.

  3. Register for Speaking Test

    After you have completed your assessment in the Testing Center, please contact Mary South (msouth@collin.edu) at the link below to schedule the English-Speaking Test. This portion can be done in person or through Zoom.

  4. Additional Information

    The ESL Assessment has three separate parts:

     

    ■  A handwritten essay on a given topic.


    ■  A multiple-choice Reading, Listening and Grammar assessment on the computer.


    ■  An Oral Assessment arranged with the ESL Coordinator to be given at a later date.

     

    After completing all parts of the test, the ESL Coordinator will select the appropriate courses for you to register.
