Aug. 5, 2022 The Art Gallery at Collin College will host the exhibition, From Her Perspective by Susan West from Aug. 11-25 at the Plano Campus. A reception is planned for Thursday, Aug. 11 from 5-8 p.m. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
Susan Wests work focuses on the social and cultural restrictions placed on women and their ability to overcome them. She said it is important that each of her works is constructed of materials with inherent meaning. She often abandons conventional sculpture materials in lieu of found objects, or repurposed matter. Her inspiration is drawn from the work of other feminist artists such as Mimi Smith, Shirin Neshat, Iris van Herpen, and Zoe Buckman, and the literature of Linda Nochlin. The exhibition is intended to wake the individual conscience of the viewer to produce social change that empowers and celebrates women.
West is an art teacher at Wylie High School.
