Collin College's Dignity Initiative Offers Two Events in March

March 9, 2023 Collin College will continue its Dignity Initiative series with two events in March. Both events are free and open to the public. The Dignity Initiative is a districtwide effort organized by the Collin College Committee Against Gender Violence and Oppression to educate and provide action steps to end gender-based oppression.

The events for March include the following.

Women Pioneers in their Fields
Ladies First
Film screening and panel discussion
March 23, 5-7 p.m.
Plano Campus Living Legends Conference Center

The documentary film Ladies First is an inspirational survival story of Deepika Kumari who, as a girl born on the roadside to abject poverty in rural India, went in search of food, stumbled upon archery, and within four years became the number one archer in the world.

A Balloon for Allah
Film Screening
March 30, 3:30-5 p.m.
McKinney Campus, Pike Hall

A Balloon for Allah and its associated panel discussion will focus on the Dignity Initiative theme of Global Oppression by fostering a discussion of Norwegian-Turkish filmmaker Nefise zkal Lorentzens journey to rediscover the Islam of her mothers mother.
