Collin College Claims First-Ever Regional Title, Punches Ticket For National Championship Tourney

Collin College Women’s Basketball are headed to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Tournament for the second time in a row after winning the NJCAA Region V Tournament. This is the first time Collin College has won a regional championship in basketball and the second time the college has competed in the national championship tournament.

“This is a monumental achievement that showcases the team’s talent, resilience, and determination,” said Dr. Albert Tezeno, vice president of Student and Enrollment Services and athletic director for Collin College. 

The Lady Cougars defeated Odessa College 66-61 in the regional championship game to claim the title, March 15 in Weatherford. Five of the eight teams competing in the Region V tournament were nationally ranked. Collin defeated South Plains College and New Mexico Junior College in the three-day tournament. 

Collin was awarded a No. 4 seed at the NJCAA Tournament, which will be held from March 26-April 1 in Casper, Wyoming. The Lady Cougars’ first game of the tournament is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, March 28 with an opponent to be determined. Collin finished its regular season with a 30-2 record, claiming a co-championship of the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC). Five players earned conference and regional honors, while Coach Jeff Allen was named Co-Coach of the Year.
