Collin College's Jennings, Buss Named All-Americans For Second Year

Collin College’s Waiata Jennings and Mackenzie Buss have been named to National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) Division I Women’s Basketball All-America teams for the second year in a row. Both players were part of Collin’s Southwest District-winning basketball team which earned back-to-back appearances in the NJCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament.

Jennings, a 5-foot-9-inch sophomore guard originally from Rotorua, New Zealand, was named a First Team All-American. Jennings averaged 21.7 points per game with 739 points this season, ranked second nationally in total points and fifth in points per game. She also contributed 7.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game while recording 122 steals. Jennings was named the 2024 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Two-Year College Player of the Year and the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference (NTJCAC) Player of the Year in addition to being named to All-Region V and All-Conference teams.

Buss, a 5-foot-4-inch sophomore guard from Lake Dallas, was named a Second Team All-American. Buss notched 17.7 points per game while shooting 51.8 percent from the field. She sank 36.8 percent of her three-point attempts and added six rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. Buss was named to the All-Region V Team and took Region V All-Tournament Most Valuable Player honors. 

The 2023-2024 Collin College Women’s Basketball team recorded an overall record of 30-3, won the NJCAA Region V Tournament for the first time in the college’s history, and finished the regular season at No. 4 in the NJCAA coaches poll. The Region V Tournament win earned the Cougars the Southwest District title and the No. 4 seed in the national tournament.
