
Collin College Assistant Chief of Police David Prevatte was honored with the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award, exemplifying his outstanding contributions and commitment to quality in higher education. He was recognized alongside other award recipients during the NISOD International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence held in Austin last month. The award highlights his dedication to serving the Collin College community and supporting student success.
Technical Campus Dean of Academic Affairs/Workforce Rachel Bzostek Walker has been appointed to serve as the Leadership Development Studies Representative to the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Program Council. She will be one of 11 members of the Honors Program Council who is responsible for making recommendations to headquarters staff on various initiatives led by the honors program. The term will be fulfilled from July 2026 through June 2030.
Collin College Police Officer Nick Eaton earned a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Boston University.
Collin College Police Lieutenant Eric Hawkins earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from East Texas A&M University.
Plano Campus Associate Dean of Academic Affairs/Workforce Dr. David Tercero graduated from Leadership Plano (Class 42) on May 21.
Two Collin College paramedic students demonstrated exceptional professionalism and emergency response skills during separate incidents earlier this past winter. On Dec. 20, paramedic student Will Wright stopped to assist after witnessing a hit-and-run crash involving two bicyclists, providing triage and patient care while directing bystanders until emergency responders arrived. In a separate incident on Jan. 3, paramedic student Cameron Steele helped protect nursing staff during a violent patient encounter while completing a clinical rotation at Texas Health Plano, using appropriate restraint techniques until security personnel gained control of the situation. Both students were commended for their calm decision-making, leadership, and commitment to patient and public safety, showcasing the high standards of Collin College’s Emergency Medical Services program.
McKinney Campus Associate Dean Melinda Tingle led the College for Kids Camp at the McKinney Campus June 1-4, which reached full capacity with 41 students enrolled, including seven scholarship recipients. The campus also hosted a Nurse/Health Science Investigation Camp June 1-3, hosting 135 middle and high school students. The camp continues to serve as a successful recruitment pipeline, with 40 of the 90 participants who previously attended now enrolled at Collin College. Both programs provided hands-on learning opportunities while introducing prospective students to available academic and career pathways.
After 40 years of nursing education and 13 years at Collin College, Professor Cyndie Amerson is retiring. Amerson has been an integral part of the success of the Nursing Department serving as chair of the writing committee for the National League for Nursing Center of Excellence in Nursing Education designation, the writing committee for the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, and faculty advisor for Alpha Delta Nu to name only a few. We celebrate her extraordinary contributions to the profession and to our students.
