Collin College offers a variety of course delivery options for students, ranging from traditional in-person classroom courses to fully online courses. When reviewing the schedule of classes, you may notice several terms listed under “Delivery Mode” in the section details for each course. If you are viewing your enrolled courses, these same terms will appear in the Delivery Mode column.

Modes with On-Campus Requirements

  • Face-to-Face Courses: Consist of regularly scheduled face-to-face meetings at a specific campus location; some use of technology is required to support learning.

  • Hybrid Courses: Courses in which 50% or less of the instruction is delivered online. The remaining instruction is delivered through in-person scheduled meetings.

  • Blended Courses: Courses in which more than 50% but less than 100% of the instruction is delivered online. Some required face-to-face activities (e.g., discussions, presentations, exam administration) will be scheduled intermittently throughout the term.

Modes with No On-Campus Requirements

  • Web Synchronous Courses: Courses in which 100% of the instruction is conducted using web-based technologies to extend the classroom lecture environment and other activities to students at remote sites in real time. There are no on-campus requirements. These courses utilize web conferencing or other synchronous e-learning media (e.g., Canvas, MS Teams, Studio, Zoom) to provide remote access to the classroom experience.

  • Web Courses: Courses in which 100% of the instruction is conducted online. Instructional materials, readings, assignments, class discussions, and other assessments may be accessed from remote locations.

Stay informed about your course requirements by reviewing the course/section notes upon registration, reading the course syllabus, checking your Canvas announcements, contacting your professor, and monitoring other forms of communication from the college.

Testing requirements including proctoring with student authentication, a desktop or laptop computer (not a mobile device), webcam, and microphone may be required in hybrid, blended, web synchronous, and web courses. Learn more information about online proctored exams.

Please note: Dual credit students will need to check with their high school for course schedule type.
